About Us
What is an honor guard? And honor guard is a group of women and/or men that at some time in their lives were also members of the same profession – police, firefighter, military, and nurses who attend a funeral, or wake, or celebration of life to recognize, honor, respect, and give thanks for the dedicated service the deceased provided. Members of an honor guard may still be working, retired, or no longer active in their chosen field. Many volunteer their time to bring an air of respect, dignity, and pay final tribute to one of their own.
Our Story
In January 2024 Dorothy Barrow RN, BSN shared an article about Nurses Honor Guard with her mother, Pat Barrow, RN, BSN, a retired VA nurse and convinced her that as a retired nurse she needed to start a chapter in the Denver area as she had lots of time. Pat, who was volunteering at the VA hospital, started recruiting retired and retiring VA nurses to help her start a local chapter and in August 2024 the Mile High Nurses Honor Guard was founded.
